Everything you need to know about Tanakh Reader

Who is this app for?

Tanakh Reader is for anyone seeking a deeper, more immersive connection with this extraordinary text. While there are many solid Bible apps available, we aimed to build a truly minimalistic, modern interface focused purely on the reading experience itself. Whether you're a Hebrew language student, or simply someone who wants to read the original text without distractions—our app serves those who value immersion and personal connection with timeless words.

Is Tanakh Reader free?

Yes! Tanakh Reader is completely free to use. We believe these texts should be accessible to everyone without barriers.

How do I install the app?

You can use Tanakh Reader in two ways: directly in your browser at bible.pesukim.org for instant access, or install it as a native app for the full experience. On desktop, look for the install icon in your browser's address bar. On mobile, find the logo in footer and follow the instructions.

Who developed Tanakh Reader?

We're a small community based in Israel with friends all over the world, united by our shared passion for Hebrew culture and learning. Our project is centered around our Discord community where we host weekly conversations, study sessions, and collaborative discussions about Hebrew wisdom traditions. Many of these community insights—both text and audio—are integrated directly into the app through our toggleable Commentary feature.

Are you affiliated with any specific religion or denomination?

No, Tanakh Reader is completely neutral and not affiliated with any specific religion, denomination, or sect. We simply provide the Tanakh text in multiple languages and translations in a modern interface, allowing users to engage with this ancient text in whatever way resonates with them.

How do you choose which translations to include?

Translating the Hebrew Bible is challenging because ancient Hebrew and modern languages work very differently. Hebrew is built on roots that carry clusters of related meanings, so a single word can suggest multiple ideas at once. Many Hebrew words span broad semantic ranges with no exact counterpart in other languages, and much of the Bible’s poetry relies on rhythm, sound, and wordplay that cannot be reproduced. Every translation therefore involves interpretation, and no translation can fully capture the Hebrew’s richness, ambiguity, and cultural depth.

We carefully select “middle-ground” translations that balance fidelity to the original Hebrew with readability. These avoid being too literal, which can be confusing, or too interpretive, which can introduce bias. Our goal is to provide translations that are both accurate and easy to read for modern readers. Remember: translations are tools to help you understand the text—they are ultimately interpretations of the original text. For detailed information about available translations and their sources, click the logo in the app.
